Sophia’s Safehouse in an Uncanny Valley examines the recent celebrity culture of humanoid AI as a way to better understand humanity, authenticity, identity, and memory in the early 21st century. The installation on view at Darling’s Attic through November 29, composed by 32 artworks and an intelligent robot, is inspired in part by the literary works of George Orwell, Mary Shelley, Philip K. Dick, Isaac Asimov, as well as other pulp science fiction in general. It offers a compelling response to recent societal events and draws attention to the accelerated technological progress in the world today.
